Food insecurity is expected to remain at alarming levels through 2026, according to the WFP 2026 Global Outlook: Mid-year update.

Beyond visible famine, hidden hunger – micronutrient deficiencies affecting billions – weakens health systems, stunts economic growth, and perpetuates cycles of poverty and instability. The World Food Programme (WFP) has the teams and deep-field expertise to make sure every dollar donated achieves the maximum impact through effective and efficient programmes. We are urging the international community to invest in proven solutions to stop the spread of hunger and get back on track in 2026 towards a world with zero hunger.

2026: Urgent needs call for innovative responses

As we reach the midpoint of 2026, continued support from partners has enabled WFP to sustain life-saving assistance to more than 45 million people, invest in innovation and strengthen resilience programmes. Yet global food insecurity remains highly concerning, with 266 million people across food-crisis countries facing acute hunger.

Conflict continues to be the primary driver of hunger, compounded by economic shocks and climate risks that threaten to deepen food insecurity in the months ahead. As humanitarian needs continue to outpace available funding, sustained action is essential to prevent conditions from deteriorating further.

WFP has the teams and deep-field expertise to make sure every dollar donated achieves the maximum impact through effective and efficient programmes. Beyond financial contributions, partnerships provide the expertise, technology and innovation that help WFP reach vulnerable communities more efficiently and effectively. We are calling on the international community to continue investing in proven solutions that save lives, strengthen resilience and keep the world moving towards zero hunger.

2026 will be a year of unrelenting crises

But WFP's work can have a powerful impact on the lives of millions of people. Be part of the solution.
